A question, a problem, an idea: write to contact@wub-lab.com.

The developer answers personally. Mention your phone model, your Android version and what you were doing when the problem happened.

Report a bug

Send it by email to contact@wub-lab.com. Useful in a report: the phone model, the Android version, the game version, and the steps to reproduce it. A screenshot or a short video helps a lot.

Frequently asked questions

The beatmap doesn’t line up with my file

A beatmap doesn’t contain the music: it contains a fingerprint of the attacks in its creator’s file. When you launch it, the game compares this fingerprint with your file and aligns the beat grid on its own, with a reliability score.

If the match is doubtful, a window tells you so and asks: right file? right version? a remix, a live version, an “extended”, a cut intro? You have three choices:

  • Back to the menu, to look for the same version of the song as the creator’s, when you know which one it is.
  • Another file from your music folder, if the game picked the wrong candidate.
  • The alignment mini-editor, which shows the two fingerprints one above the other: you slide yours until the attacks line up, and you listen to the result.

The setting is remembered for this file: you don’t do it again next game.

The game can’t find my music file
  • Check the music folder in the game’s settings: it only looks there, subfolders included (up to 5,000 files and eight levels deep). If your music is somewhere else, choose the right folder, or a parent folder.
  • Check the format: the game reads what Android can decode (MP3, AAC and M4A, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, WAV). A damaged file shows up with a message saying that decoding is stuck because the file is truncated or unreadable.
  • Check the file’s title and artist tags: the game first finds the song by these tags, then checks it against the attack fingerprint. If they are missing or different, it suggests the best candidates; filling them in makes the search instant.
How do I send a beatmap from the web Jukebox to my phone?
  • Sign in on the web Jukebox with the same Zip Zop account as in the game.
  • On the beatmap’s page, tap “Send to my phone”. If the game is open, the beatmap arrives right away; otherwise, it is downloaded the next time the game is launched, and the site tells you how it’s going.
  • Each beatmap page also offers a QR code and a link: scanned or opened on the phone, they open the game on the beatmap’s page, where you download it with one tap.
  • You can also download the beatmap’s file and import it by hand: Play → My beatmaps → “Import a beatmap…”.
I have no sound
  • Check the phone’s “media” volume, separate from the ringtone volume.
  • Try another file. A damaged file shows up with a message saying that decoding is stuck because the file is truncated or unreadable; some formats can’t be decoded.
  • Bluetooth headphones work, but add a delay: redo the calibration with them (see below).
My taps are judged late or early

Every phone, and every pair of headphones, has its own delay between the sound and the screen. The game makes up for it after a calibration: in Profile → Game → Calibration, tap along to the clicks you hear. The measured offset is then applied to all your games.

Do it again if you change headphones or speakers, or if you switch from the phone’s speaker to Bluetooth.

“Different version” before a challenge

Here, it isn’t your audio file that differs, but the beatmap itself: a beatmap on the Jukebox can be republished by its author, and two players must have the same version for their scores to be compared.

  • Before a challenge, the game offers to update it: it takes the Jukebox version, keeps your audio file and forgets your local best score, which was set on other notes.
  • In a room, the draw only offers beatmaps everyone has in the same version; nearby, when the sound only plays on the host’s phone, the host’s beatmap is lent to whoever doesn’t have it.
  • A challenge you received whose beatmap has changed since is outdated: the other player’s score was set on an old version of the beatmap, so there is nothing to compare. The only action is to delete it.
Does the game work without internet?

Yes for playing, creating, importing and exporting beatmaps, and for local play between nearby phones. Internet is used for the account, the Jukebox, leaderboards, friends, challenges, online play, progression and the shop (wubs, cosmetics, purchases), and the ads between songs (served by Google AdMob, account or not, and removed by the “no ads” purchase). A beatmap’s leaderboard only receives official games (an account and a connection; the first one each day is free, the following ones cost 5 wubs); a practice game can be played offline and keeps its best score on the phone.

How do I delete my account?

From the app, or by email if you no longer have access to it: it’s all explained on the Delete your account page.

Why does the game ask for my location for local play?

Android requires the “location” permission, and precise location — not just approximate —, to look for a nearby device over Bluetooth. The game never reads your location and passes it on to no one; it only uses it to find the phone across from you. You can refuse: only local play becomes impossible.
